This personal commentary about The Ca’ d’Oro ( will be live from Venice, with your guide Luisella Romeo.

The museum stands on the Grand Canal directly opposite the Ri-alto Market. Once covered in colourful paint and gold leaf, the house has been a national Italian museum featuring the beautiful art collection of Baron Giorgio Franchetti who acquired the palace in 1894 and turned it into an art gallery.

The collection features major masterpieces by Mantegna, frescoes by Titian and bronze statuary and bas-reliefs. Franchetti, with the support of Gabriele D’Annuzio and Mariano Fortuny, designed and decorated the exquisite ground floor with ancient tesserae in marble of different colours, inspired by the mosaic floors of St Mark’s Basilica.

Luisella Romeo has been a registered tourist guide in Venice since May 2000. She was born and raised in Venice and after graduating from University in Venice, Ca’ Foscari, in Foreign Languages and Literature had the chance to travel and study her love of art and history abroad. She says she is interested in most things and enjoys meeting people from all over the world.
