The Darlington Piano Society’s final recital before Christmas is by Lara Melda on Sunday 9th December 3pm in Central Hall, Dolphin Centre.

Lara won the BBC Young Musician 2010 competition, performing Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 in the final round with Vasily Petrenko and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff. Since then she has also performed Mozart Piano Concerto K466 and Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with the orchestra.

Lara made her BBC Proms and Royal Albert Hall debut this summer as one of the soloists in an evening devoted to previous Young Musician winners. Other UK concerto performances have included performances of Britten’s Young Apollo, Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto), Mozart K466 and K242 and Beethoven 3rd concerto in a tour with the National Youth Orchestra of New Zealand.

Four Chopin Ballades performed in the recital will form part of a CD to be released in 2019.

Leon McCawley (24th March), eminent British pianist in a programme celebrating early and late works
