Darlington-based Theatre Hullabaloo, the North East’s specialist producer of theatre for children and young people, is celebrating the news that it has been included in the Arts Council’s National Portfolio of Organisations (NPO) for 2018 – 2022.
The organisation will receive just over £250,000 per year to deliver a high quality programme of theatre and creativity, with a particular emphasis on work for younger children and their families.
The Hullabaloo, the National Centre of Theatre for Young Audiences, has seen Theatre Hullabaloo enter into a new partnership with Darlington Borough Council to offer a purpose-designed theatre space, creative play, family café and a broad range of creative opportunities for children from 0 – 12 years and their families.
Theatre Hullabaloo’s Creative Producer, Miranda Thain, said: “Theatre Hullabaloo is proud to be part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and grateful to receive continued funding to bring quality theatre to children and families in our region and beyond. The investment reinforces our position as a sector leader and also our shared belief that creativity should be part of everybody’s childhood.
“The Hullabaloo will be an embodiment of that belief, bringing with it a wonder-filled programme of opportunities to challenge the minds, inspire the imaginations and enrich the childhoods of our youngest audiences.”
Sharon Paterson, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Theatre Hullabaloo, said: “Continued funding recognises Theatre Hullabaloo’s outstanding track record of delivering excellence in theatre practice for young audiences. A child-centred approach lies at the heart of everything we do and is central, not only to the creation of our work, but also to our commitment to ensuring the best possible experiences for children, young people, their educators, families and friends. We look forward to welcoming them all to our new home at The Hullabaloo.”
The Hullabaloo will open on Monday 11th December with Theatre Hullabaloo’s celebrated Christmas show for 4-7 year olds, Bear & Butterfly, pictured here, and tickets are now on sale at www.theatrehullabaloo.org.uk or via the box office on 01325 405 405 for performances up to and including New Year’s Eve.
