The charming ballet Coppélia (photo by Peter Mares) comes to the Darlington Hippodrome in a colourful production by the English Youth Ballet. The production will feature international principal dancers and 100 talented young dancers from the local area.
The comical story of Coppélia follows the escapades of the dreamy Franz and how he falls in love with a beautiful, life-like doll. The doll – Coppélia – is created by the mad inventor, Dr Coppelius. The hilarious plot thickens when Franz’s jealous lover, Swanhilda, takes her friends on an adventure into the spooky house of the mad inventor to confront her rival.
International principal dancers appearing include Phillip Tunstall, Samantha Camejo, Phillip Bolleov, Clare Carruble, Monica Tapiador & Trevor Wood. EYB’s principal dancers have joined the company from some of the world’s greatest companies including English National Ballet, La Scala and Ballet du Capitol de Toulouse.
