Darlington for Culture has reacted to last night’s (Thursday March 23) decision by full council to close down Crown Street Library and move it to The Dolphin Centre but to work with the community to save Cockerton Library.
DfC Chair John Dean said: “The campaign to keep Crown Street Library in its current building has been hard fought. Not only has it been a passionate campaign but the community has also suggested practical ways in which Crown Street Library can stay open.
“We are deeply disappointed that councillors voted to reject the community’s ideas and we pay tribute to all those who have campaigned so hard to change councillors’ minds.
“We are, however, encouraged that the community has been given an opportunity to save Cockerton Library and look forward to the next stage of the process.”
