Join Stan L Abbott at Waterstones Darlington for an hour to discuss his first novel The Episode, published by Sixth Element in March 2019. The author was a journalist for many national and regional newspapers, and he has edited several books and magazines.

The Episode is a fictionalised account of one man’s descent into a brief period of madness and the surreal world he creates as he tumbles into a ‘manic episode’. Across Europe, it is estimated that 38% of people suffer some degree of mental illness or breakdown in their lives; and this novel gives a rare first-person insight into how it feels when an individual finds the intellectual certainties that define our daily lives crumbling all around him.

The book explores the boundaries between the real and the imagined; between the known and the unknown; between the possible and the improbable. It tells the tale of naïve Felix Merryweather who finds himself unexpectedly reunited with a woman from his past and a bizarre chain of events as he is drawn into the labyrinthine world of the reclusive entrepreneur Lord Lindisfarne…
