The next concert of the Darlington Music Society will be given on TUESDAY 17th May at the Dolphin Centre (Please note the different day from usual!).
It is going to be given by Mathilde Milwidsky (violinist) and Joseph Havlat (pianist). This concert was scheduled for January, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The programme is different from then, so the brochure is not correct. So now they will be playing pieces by Beethoven, Grieg, Hindemith, Arvo Pärt & Wieniawski. About the performers:
Mathilde Milwidsky graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2017 with 1st Class Honours. She has performed as a soloist at venues in the UK such as the Royal Festival Hall, the Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, St John’s Smith Square, Cadolgan Hall & the Royal Albert Hall as well as in Finland, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, Spain, Ireland and Sweeden. She was the sole British violinist to be selected for the 2019 Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition in Brussels. She recently won 3rd place at the Windsor Festival International String Competition 2019. In 2020 she was a major prizewinner at a Competition in Frankfurt. At the inaugural Aurora Music Competition in 2018 she won 1st place, as well as the Audience Prize. Mathilde recorded her debut CD for Toccata Classics with a pianist which comprised of the World Premiere of the 3 Sonatas for Violin & Piano by Agnes Zimmermann. This was released in 2020 and has received widespread acclaim.
Joseph Havlat is from Australia. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music from 2012 – 2018 where he received his BMus and MMus with distinction. He has performed in major concert venues in the UK, Europe, America, Japan and Australia both as a soloist and as part of chamber groups. In 2019 he won the keyboard section of the Royal Overseas League Music Competition held in London. As well as his work as a soloist he is also a keen chamber musician, performing regularly with a Clarinet Trio. He appeared with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and also the London Symphony Orchestra.

A limited number of tickets can be obtained at the concert and we have a bank-card reader this year. People 25 years of age and under can come to our concerts for free! This is a scheme of the ‘Cavatina Chamber Music Trust’ – in the hope that they ‘catch the music bug’ so-to-speak! Face coverings are still advised, especially when walking about. Seating will be well spaced out!
