Calling all creative practitioners, Darlington Arts Festival 2019 is just around the corner and runs from Friday 17th May to Monday 20th May. Darlington for Culture (DfC) co-ordinates the festival and, now in its seventh year, it again takes place in venues across the town centre and will showcase a range of cultural activities and events to support and promote the arts in Darlington.
DfC aims to help the arts scene thrive even more in 2019 and is encouraging local arts organisations to get involved in promoting themselves.
If you have events planned for those dates, whether music, visual art, dance or other cultural and creative activities, then please contact DfC before 18th March to be included in the programme and publicity material for the Festival and Writers Festival that will run in parallel.
Alternatively, if you would like to organise an event specially for the festival, DfC has a small number of grants available of up to £250 and would be happy to assist new ventures. Contact Darlington for Culture with your idea to discuss it further and visit the DfC grants page for more information.
The festival’s theme is ‘Follow Your Art’ and it aims to highlight the wide variety of creative activities available for people to participate in, alongside the creative groups that offer those opportunities. The festival will be a snapshot of different types of arts activities that take place all year round but will focus on encouraging people to try something new; from watching bands and plays they don’t know, to joining a music group or choir, learning to dance or starting to write a novel.
This year, the festival welcomes the addition of a performance space in the Market Hall – called “Spotlight on…” (pictured) – which provides groups with the opportunity to promote their events for free and attract new members. If you are interested in booking a time for the “Spotlight on…” performance space, then please state this in your application.
When applying, please include the following information, maximum 250 words: your name and organisation name (if applicable); title of the event; details of date and times; venue; price of admission plus any age restrictions; and contact details (website/phone number).
