Darlington Orchestra Winter Concert returns after three-year gap

The next Darlington Orchestra concert takes place in the Dolphin Centre’s beautiful Central Hall. It’s the group’s first performance since January 2020, owing to various breaks in rehearsal schedules and restrictions on public events caused by covid-19 issues.
Conductor David Plews said: “Living through lockdowns has reminded many of us just how important music is in our lives. If it’s important to you too, then please join us for an evening where enjoying the music is all that matters.”
The lively programme will range from movie music to popular European classical pieces with some jazz, dance and theatre tunes in between. It will include the Gypsy-music-inspired Csardas by Monti, the jazzier sounds of Richard Rodney Bennett’s Serenade for Orchestra, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ famous English Folk Song Suite and Klaus Badelt’s outstanding orchestral selection from the film Pirates of the Caribbean.
The format of the concerts is quite informal and accessible, with each piece of music performed being between 2 to 10 minutes long. A printed programme is included in admission price and provides concertgoers with brief explanations about the music and composers; and there’ll be a version written specially for 5- to 11-year-olds.
Plus, the orchestra will welcome special guest performers the Harrogate-based wind quintet ‘Stray Winds’.
