Darlington Piano Society’s third recital of the season sees a Darlington debut for Mark Viner, described by International Piano Magazine as “one of the most gifted pianists of his generation”
A graduate from the Purcell School and the Royal College of Music, he has built an international career, which has taken him across much of Europe as well as North and South America, and he has given recitals at many venues throughout the UK, including the Cheltenham and Harrogate Music Festivals.
He is renowned for his CD recordings, frequently of less well known composers such as Alkan, Chaminade and Thalberg, as well as giants such as Liszt. His programme includes works by both Alkan and Liszt, as well as Haydn, Faure and Beethoven.
He is currently undertaking a recording project to record the complete piano music of Alkan which is expected to run to some 17 CDs in length. His advocacy for the music of Alkan and Liszt led to his election as Chairman of both the Alkan Society and the Liszt Society in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
His recital will be held in Central Hall at the Dolphin Centre at 3pm on 11th December
